GPS/GNSS Solutions
Dredging
Dredging is not just about taking care of fairways or waterways. Dike construction, land reclamation, beach nourishment, and artificial island construction are also significant elements of the dredging industry. Each of these projects require the use of a range of specialized support tools such as suction or cutter dredgers, lateral offloading boats, barges and crane-equipped pontoons. For all of these areas, high quality and productivity are major requirements but costs must also be taken into account.
This cost tradeoff moves the dredging industry to use leading-edge positioning techniques in order to ensure the highest possible return on investment. Since the availability of radio-electric positioning equipment on the market, systems such as SYLEDIS and AXYLE have been used extensively. More recently, the use of real-time differential GPS has been adopted, providing rapid project implementation and superior accuracy.
Precision demanding dredging activities require the centimeter accuracy provided by real-time kinematic GPS techniques. The techniques are commonly used for on-line tide compensation and gauge evolution during loading. You can save time while increasing accuracy with the use of GPS precision. The Magellan AquariusTM dual-frequency receiver with LRKTM (Long Range Kinematic) technology provides astonishing performance for dredging applications.
When sub-meter accuracy is acceptable, the Magellan SagittaTM with built-in HF data link provides differential GPS positioning for small-and medium- scale projects covering several tens of kilometers.
Magellan offers a wide range of professional GPS solutions, ideal for Dredging.
