Corum, Turkey – January, 2013 – The Hittite University School of Corum Department of Mapping and Cadaster has purchased two Spectra Precision EPOCH 50 GNSS receivers and eight Spectra Precision FOCUS 8 total stations for academic study and research. “The new Spectra Precision units were chosen for their economy and precision. They strengthen the education and research laboratories used by our more than 165 students,” according to Ibrahim Murat Ozulu, lecturer. “The new units will help ensure that our graduates are ready to carry out the fullest range of tasks demanded of technicians and assistant project managers in today’s construction projects in private enterprise and government. One of the world’s most successful military training aircraft, the PZL-130 TC Orlik, manufactured by EADS PZL "Warszawa-Okecie" S.A., is now being leveled with the aid of a Nikon Nivo 5M total station. Aircraft leveling, both longitudinal (forward and aft) and lateral (left to right), is performed in the final stages of assembly. OPGK a major survey firm working on road survey contracts across Poland is achieving significantly improved efficiencies using a newly developed Electronic Center for Management of Geodata (ECMG) to link remote field technicians and the central office. With ECMG a single field technician can take measurements for a proposed road from virtually anywhere in Poland and send all data wirelessly to the central office for overnight preparation of road design stakeout data to enable next day staking. The Latvian State Forest Service (SFS) recently evaluated four leading brands of GNSS handheld mapping devices in a head-to-head comparison that included rigorous field trials, financial cost and technical specifications.
